What is Meshtastic?
Meshtastic is a community-made way to send text messages without cell service or Wi-Fi. It uses a long-range, low-power radio called LoRa so small devices can pass messages from one to another—forming a “mesh” that carries your text across distance. Meshtastic (off-grid texting)
How it works (no jargon)
Think walkie-talkies that relay for each other automatically. Each device repeats messages it hears so your note can “hop” across a chain of devices to reach friends miles away. You control your device from iOS/Android or a web app, but the actual message travel happens off-grid via LoRa. AI N
Is it private?
Messages on a channel are encrypted (AES-256 in CTR mode), and direct messages can be protected with keys so only the recipient can read them. Headers stay visible so the mesh can relay what it can’t read—helpful for reliability. For most everyday uses, that’s a solid balance of privacy and resilience.

- Events & clubs: temporary, local comms with no fees.
